Negrado

The Foundation of Transformation
Nigredo is an essential phase in the alchemical process, representing destruction and purification as a prelude to renewal and enlightenment. This stage involves confronting chaos, decay, and darkness—elements necessary for personal growth and transformation. Understanding nigredo offers profound insights into both alchemical traditions and their psychological parallels, particularly in the context of self-discovery and individuation.
For the nigredo project, I used black paper, charcoal, paint, and ink to depict the nigredo stage of alchemy. The artwork captures the essence of decay and transformation through the imagery of a dark cauldron engulfed in black flames and smoke. Central to the composition is a skull and a crow, locked in a dance that symbolizes the entwining forces of chaos and renewal. These elements evoke the tension and potential inherent in darkness—an acknowledgment of loss and decay as precursors to rebirth and renewal. The crow other painting reflects the same ideas.
